Prediction market statistics

Counted . Recounted every hour.

Papermarkets mirrors the public market catalogs of Polymarket and Kalshi so people can trade them with simulated money. Doing that means counting both catalogs continuously, and these are the counts. They are free to quote and to reproduce with attribution.

Total volume each of the open markets above has taken since it opened, summed. Not a daily figure: the per-subject table below carries the 24-hour ones.

Where the volume goes, by subject

The 25 busiest subjects by 24-hour volume. These rows overlap and do not sum to the totals above. A market about a US Senate race carries both Politics and Elections, and is counted in each — the subjects come from the tags each venue files a market under, not from a taxonomy that assigns every market one home.

How these numbers were produced

The source. Papermarkets reads the public market catalogs of Polymarket and Kalshi on a few-minute cycle and stores them. Every figure here is a count of those stored records, walked a page at a time from the same API the site itself renders from. Nothing is sampled, modelled or extrapolated.

What counts as live. A market is counted only while it is open for trading. Closed and resolved markets stay visible on each venue for a while and still carry their last price and volume; counting those would state a larger catalog than anyone can actually trade. Markets are counted once each, by identifier.

Two different volumes. The headline total is lifetime volume: what each currently-open market has traded since it opened, summed. The subject table’s column is 24-hour volume. They are separate fields reported separately by the venues, they are not comparable, and there is no site-wide 24-hour total here because the only 24-hour figures available are per subject and the subjects overlap. Either way the numbers are the venues’ own: none of it is our users’ activity, since nothing on Papermarkets trades with real money.

Overlap. Subjects are the tags the venues file markets under. One market commonly carries several, so subject rows overlap by construction and cannot be added together or compared against the totals.

What this cannot tell you. It is a census of two venues, not of prediction markets generally: anything listed elsewhere is absent. It is also a snapshot — sports catalogs swell on a fixture day and empty after it, so a count taken on a Sunday and one taken on a Tuesday are not a trend.

Updates. The count reruns hourly and this page shows the time of the one you are reading. There is no archive of previous counts yet, so cite the timestamp with the figure.

Using these figures

Quote and reproduce them freely, including commercially, with attribution — CC BY 4.0. If a chart or a paragraph would be easier to check with the underlying catalog, the whole of it is browsable: every live market, listed by question.

What a price in these markets means

Each market above prices one outcome between 0 and 100¢, and the price reads as the probability the market assigns it — the implied probability calculator converts any of them to American or decimal odds, and the other calculators cover parlays, stake sizing and two-venue arbitrage. If the idea is unfamiliar, the guide to paper trading prediction markets explains reading one and taking a side, and practising against Polymarket’s live odds covers doing it on the venue most of this volume comes from. You can trade any market in the table with simulated money, free, without depositing anything.
